15 Flights Diverted at Delhi Airport Due to Heavy Rainfall and Severe Weather Conditions

Heavy rainfall in Delhi has caused significant disruption to air travel with 15 flights diverted to nearby cities. The Delhi Airport authorities issued advisories about affected flight operations while ongoing precipitation caused traffic congestion and waterlogging across the city. Passengers are advised to check flight statuses and consider using Delhi Metro for airport transportation.

New Delhi:

At least 15 flights were diverted from the Delhi airport this evening due to severe rainfall. Eight of these flights were redirected to Jaipur, five to Lucknow, and two to Chandigarh.

The precipitation began intermittently early in the morning and persisted throughout the day. Following a short pause in the afternoon, dark clouds covered the sky, leading to a period of heavy downpour.

This rainfall resulted in significant traffic congestion and water accumulation in numerous areas.

Previously, Delhi Airport authorities had issued an advisory warning that flight operations would likely be affected by the unfavorable weather conditions.

"Due to adverse weather conditions in Delhi, flight operations at Delhi Airport may be impacted. Our on-ground teams are diligently working with all stakeholders to ensure a seamless and efficient passenger experience," stated the Delhi airport in their official announcement.

Travelers were recommended to verify their flight status with their respective airlines and consider utilizing the Delhi Metro for airport transportation to avoid potential road delays.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier forecast rain for the day and issued yellow and orange alerts, warning residents about moderate rainfall accompanied by light thunderstorms and lightning in the region.
