Bengaluru:
Former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda has been hospitalized at Manipal Hospital in Bengaluru, Karnataka, following a decline in his health condition.
According to hospital authorities on Tuesday, medical professionals have confirmed that Deve Gowda is on the path to recovery, and his condition is currently stable.
The former Prime Minister was transferred to the hospital on Monday evening after experiencing symptoms including chills, fever, and a urinary tract infection.
A statement released by Manipal Hospital indicated, "Prime Minister Deve Gowda was hospitalized with an infection. He is presently receiving medical treatment for the condition, and his progress is being monitored by a team of medical specialists."
Despite being 92 years old, the JD-S Rajya Sabha member continues to be actively involved in politics and has recently declared that he will work to ensure the BJP–JD-S alliance assumes power in Karnataka.
Sources close to the family revealed that Deve Gowda has been suffering from age-related health issues and had recently conducted a tour of his native Hassan district.
The former Prime Minister had also visited the families of eight victims who lost their lives when a truck collided with a Ganesh immersion procession.
Hospital representatives stated that Deve Gowda is responding positively to treatment and showing steady improvement.
Often referred to as the "son of the soil," Deve Gowda is known for his comprehensive understanding of agricultural issues and his dedication to rural development.
His political career extends over seven decades, and he remains an active participant in Karnataka's coalition politics.
Deve Gowda began his political journey in the early 1950s with the Congress party. Subsequently, he associated with the Janata Party and emerged as a significant figure in Karnataka's opposition political landscape.
He served as Karnataka's Chief Minister from December 1994 until May 1996.
On June 1, 1996, he became India's 11th Prime Minister, heading the United Front government until April 1997.
Recently, Deve Gowda addressed the media at the JD-S state headquarters, JP Bhavan, in Bengaluru where he announced a partnership with the BJP for all forthcoming elections in Karnataka.
Deve Gowda serves as the JD-S President while his son, H.D. Kumaraswamy, holds the position of the party's state unit President.
"The alliance will remain secure for all elections, including Panchayat and Assembly polls. My relationship with Prime Minister Narendra Modi will remain unchanged. We have maintained good relations, and throughout the past decade, I have never spoken disrespectfully about him," Deve Gowda stated.
He added that the JD-S aims to secure at least 50 to 60 seats in the upcoming Bengaluru civic elections, which is why the party is conducting an energetic campaign in the city.
