Police successfully located the builder at a rehabilitation facility in Vasai within the Palghar district.
Mumbai:
A kidnapping case took an unexpected turn when a Mumbai builder, reportedly abducted from his residence, was discovered at a rehabilitation center in nearby Palghar district. Authorities revealed Tuesday that he had been admitted to the facility on his first wife's instructions.
According to a complaint filed with Versova police, unknown individuals allegedly kidnapped Chandrakant Bhunu from his residence in the Four Bungalows area on Sunday evening, an official stated.
Afsana Arab, Bhunu's second wife, claimed in her report that four men arrived at their home, forced him to leave with them, and departed in a vehicle.
She suggested the incident was connected to property disputes involving the builder's son from his previous marriage, the official mentioned.
The official explained that following the complaint, Versova police registered a kidnapping case and initiated a search operation alongside the crime branch. They eventually traced Bhunu to a rehabilitation center in Vasai, Palghar district.
According to the official, what appeared to be an abduction was actually an intervention arranged by the victim's first wife, who was worried about his alcohol dependency. She had arranged for his involuntary admission to the rehabilitation facility.
The men who forcibly removed the builder from his residence were employees of the rehabilitation center acting under the first wife's directions, the official confirmed.
