A disturbing video has emerged showing a crocodile dragging a woman into the Kharasrota river in Odisha.
Jajpur (Odisha):
Authorities in Odisha's Jajpur district reported that a 57-year-old woman has disappeared after being attacked by a crocodile while bathing in the Kharasrota river. Police confirmed the incident on Tuesday.
The attack took place at Kantia village within the Binjharpur Police Station jurisdiction. The victim, identified as Soudamini Mahala, was bathing in the river on Monday afternoon when the crocodile struck, according to a senior police officer.
The terrifying moment was captured on video, which has since circulated widely across social media platforms, showing the crocodile pulling the woman into the river.
"The woman was bathing in the Kharasrota river at approximately 4 pm on Monday when a crocodile suddenly attacked and dragged her into the deeper parts of the river. Despite villagers on the riverbank attempting to chase away the reptile, they were unable to save her," explained the officer.
Upon receiving reports of the incident, emergency responders including fire brigade personnel and police immediately arrived at the location and launched a search operation in the river.
An eyewitness, Naba Kishore Mahala, recounted the harrowing experience: "When we saw the crocodile pulling the woman into the river, we immediately jumped in to try to rescue her, but despite all our efforts, we could not save her."
