Chennai:
An Air India flight from Colombo to Chennai carrying 158 passengers experienced a bird strike on Tuesday, resulting in the cancellation of its scheduled return journey, according to airport authorities.
Officials confirmed that the aircraft managed to land safely and all passengers were evacuated without incident.
The bird strike was discovered after the aircraft had already touched down at Chennai airport, authorities added.
Following the incident, the aircraft was grounded and Air India engineers conducted comprehensive inspections. Due to safety concerns, airline officials made the decision to cancel the return flight.
The airline arranged an alternative aircraft for the 137 passengers who were scheduled to travel to Colombo, who subsequently departed on the replacement flight.
