Himanta Sarma Discusses Investigation Report On Alleged Pakistan Connection Of Congress Leader Gaurav Gogoi

Gaurav Gogoi has consistently maintained that the investigation is politically motivated.
Guwahati:
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma presented the Special Investigation Team (SIT) report to the state cabinet today, which investigates alleged Pakistani connections of Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi through his wife. The cabinet has decided to release a summary of the report to the public in the near future.
"The state cabinet held some informal discussions regarding the SIT report during its meeting. We will be sharing its contents with the media in the coming days. What I can reveal now is that it's a very damning and damaging report," Sarma stated.
Gogoi, who serves as the Assam Congress president, has consistently claimed that the investigation has political motivations.
"We are planning to announce the findings on a large scale. Since he is also serving as the Congress's deputy leader in Lok Sabha, citizens across the country should be aware of his actual character," the Chief Minister remarked.
The SIT, headed by Special DGP (CID) Munna Prasad Gupta, officially submitted their findings to the chief minister on September 10. The team was established on February 17 to investigate the activities of Pakistani national Ali Tauqeer Sheikh and his associates. Previously, the Assam Chief Minister had alleged that Sheikh maintained connections with Gaurav Gogoi's wife, Elizabeth Colburn Gogoi, who is a British national.
Gaurav Gogoi has denied having any connections to Pakistan, though he acknowledged traveling to Pakistan in 2013 when his wife was employed there working on a climate change project.
Sarma had previously claimed that the SIT has "established the involvement of a British national - who is also married to an Indian Member of Parliament - in the larger nefarious activities of Pakistan national Ali Tauqeer Sheikh".
