The Election Commission has scheduled bypolls for eight assembly constituencies across seven states to take place on November 11, as announced by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on Monday.
The constituencies awaiting bypolls are spread across Jammu and Kashmir, Odisha, Jharkhand, Mizoram, Punjab, Telangana, and Rajasthan, with vote counting set for November 14.
In Jammu and Kashmir, two seats—Budgam and Nagrota—have become vacant recently. Budgam's vacancy arose when Chief Minister Omar Abdullah chose to represent Ganderbal instead after the 2024 assembly elections, leaving the seat vacant since October 21. Nagrota became vacant following the death of MLA Devender Singh Rana on October 31.
The Anta constituency in Rajasthan requires a bypoll after BJP MLA Kanwarlal was disqualified in May following his conviction in a gun threat case.
Telangana's Jubilee Hill constituency is facing a bypoll due to the passing of BRS MLA Maganti Gopinath, who died of a heart attack in June.
In Mizoram, the Dampa assembly seat became vacant after MNF legislator Lalrintluanga Sailo passed away on July 21.
Odisha's Nuapada constituency needs a bypoll following the death of sitting MLA Rajendra Dholakia on September 8 due to health-related complications.
The bypoll in Jharkhand's Ghatsila constituency was necessitated by the death of Ramdas Soren, while Punjab's Tarn Taran assembly seat became vacant after Kashmir Singh Sohal's passing.
