Man Fabricates Phone Robbery to Avoid Wife's Anger After Losing Device While Drunk

Police revealed on Monday that a man who reported his mobile phone being snatched in Outer Delhi's Nangloi area had actually fabricated the story to avoid his wife's fury after losing the device while intoxicated.

Authorities uncovered the deception through extensive investigation and review of surveillance footage.

On August 31, Nangloi Police Station received an emergency call about an alleged snatching incident near Agarwal Tent House in Rajendra Park Extension. The complainant, Ashok Kaushik, claimed a motorcyclist had grabbed his mobile phone before fleeing the scene, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Sachin Sharma.

Officers noted that Kaushik appeared intoxicated when filing the complaint.

Despite this observation, authorities registered a First Information Report under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and initiated a formal investigation.

Investigators examined surveillance footage from several cameras in the vicinity but found no evidence of any snatching incident.

"While reviewing the footage, we located and questioned a local resident named Sabar Singh. He informed us that the complainant had attempted to borrow his phone, but he declined because Kaushik was visibly intoxicated. After a short disagreement, Kaushik departed from the area," the DCP explained.

When confronted with the video evidence, Kaushik confessed to inventing the robbery story after losing his phone while drunk, hoping to avoid facing his wife's anger over the lost device.

He subsequently provided an official statement before a judicial magistrate at the Tis Hazari Court, confirming that no snatching had actually occurred, police officials stated.
