Indian Navy Commissions Indigenous Anti-Submarine Warfare Vessel 'Androth' to Enhance Coastal Defense Capabilities

The Indian Navy has commissioned 'Androth', its second indigenously built Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft, at the Naval Dockyard in Visakhapatnam. Built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders with over 80% locally sourced components, this vessel significantly enhances India's naval capabilities for coastal and shallow water operations while demonstrating the nation's growing self-reliance in defense manufacturing.

Indian Navy Commissions Anti-Submarine Warfare Vessel In Visakhapatnam

The Indian Navy officially commissioned 'Androth', its second Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft, during a formal ceremony at the Naval Dockyard in Visakhapatnam on Monday.

Naval officials stated that Androth's addition will significantly boost the Navy's Anti-Submarine Warfare capabilities, particularly for operations conducted in shallow and coastal waters.

Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Naval Command, presided over the commissioning ceremony, which was attended by numerous high-ranking naval officers and representatives from the shipbuilding industry.

According to an official statement released by the Eastern Naval Command, "The commissioning of Androth represents a significant advancement in the Navy's ongoing indigenization efforts and capability enhancement initiatives."

Androth was constructed domestically by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd (GRSE) based in Kolkata, demonstrating India's growing shipbuilding capabilities with more than 80 percent of its components sourced locally.

The ceremonial event highlighted India's progress in defense manufacturing self-reliance and marked an important milestone in the country's naval modernization program.
