Bengaluru Children Pen Heartfelt Letter to PM Modi and CM Siddaramaiah About Road Conditions
Bengaluru:
Young residents from a Bengaluru community have composed a poetic plea addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, affectionately calling them "thatha" (grandpa) while drawing attention to the deteriorating road conditions in their neighborhood.
"Modi thatha, Siddaramaiah thatha, why is our road like this? Everywhere you look, it's full of potholes, rocks and mud," wrote the children from Judicial Layout near Kanakapura road in their touching letter.
"Dad pays taxes, mom pays taxes, but everywhere you look, there are holes, rocks, and mud. They pay tax on petrol, tax on diesel, tax on cars, but everywhere you look, there are holes, rocks, and mud," the children expressed in Kannada, highlighting their families' tax contributions despite poor infrastructure.
"Modi thatha, Siddaramaiah thatha, when will you fix our road? Children waiting for a good road," they concluded in their heartfelt appeal.
Local residents have attempted various creative approaches to capture the attention of authorities regarding the deplorable road conditions. Previously, they placed potted plants near numerous potholes as a distinctive form of protest. During one demonstration, an elderly resident even sat inside a pothole to emphasize their plight.
According to community members, they have been deprived of proper roads and streetlights for more than 18 months. Their numerous appeals for essential civic services have reportedly gone unaddressed.
This area now falls under the jurisdiction of the newly established Greater Bengaluru Authority, which has replaced the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palika following an administrative restructuring aimed at improving civic amenity management in the rapidly expanding city. NDTV has contacted local officials for their response regarding the situation in Judicial Layout.
