21-Year-Old Pregnant Woman Murdered Over Rs 5 Lakh Dowry Demand in Uttar Pradesh

Police have filed an FIR against the husband and family members involved in the tragic incident.

In a shocking case from Gopalpur village in Uttar Pradesh's Mainpuri district, a 21-year-old pregnant woman was allegedly beaten to death by her husband and in-laws over dowry demands, according to police reports on Sunday.

The victim, identified as Rajni Kumari, a native of Rangpur village, had married Sachin only in April this year, making their marriage just months old at the time of the incident.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural) Rahul Mithas revealed that the victim's husband and his family members, including brothers Pranshu and Sahbag, along with relatives Ram Nath, Divya, and Tina, had been pressuring Rajni to provide an additional dowry of Rs 5 lakh. This money was reportedly demanded to establish a tent house business.

When Rajni failed to meet their financial demands, the family allegedly subjected her to torture before fatally assaulting her on Friday. In an apparent attempt to destroy evidence, they hastily performed her last rites in their field, police officials stated.

The incident came to light when Rajni's mother, Sunita Devi, learned about her daughter's death and rushed to the in-laws' residence. She subsequently filed a complaint at the Oncha police station on Saturday, naming the six accused family members.

"An FIR has been registered against the husband and his family members. We are actively working to apprehend all the accused persons," confirmed Additional SP Mithas.
