"We're 'P' Team": BJP As Opposition Alleges Actor Vijay Is Their 'B-Team'

Opposition leaders have labeled actor Vijay as the BJP's "B-team" following recent events.

In the aftermath of the tragic stampede at actor-politician Vijay's rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu, which claimed 41 lives, BJP representative Khusbu Sundar has described the incident as "planned" and "created." She criticized Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin and the governing DMK party for failing to allocate adequate space for Vijay's gathering.

"Tamil Nadu's citizens believe there was complete negligence. This appears to be a manufactured disaster because the DMK anticipated the large crowds Vijay would attract, yet they denied him appropriate space for his rally. MK Stalin remains silent and unresponsive to questions. With 41 fatalities, he must speak now; someone needs to unmute him," Sundar stated.

The fatal stampede on September 27 in Karur also left approximately 60 people injured. Eyewitness accounts indicate that a power failure, sudden crowd surge, and confined area contributed to the deadly incident. The actor-turned-politician, scheduled to arrive at noon, appeared around 7 pm instead.

An eyewitness reported that the crowd had expanded considerably by Vijay's arrival, and his campaign bus triggered another crowd surge. During this period, many attendees climbed trees, rooftops, and electrical lines, forcing authorities to cut power to prevent electrocution. When Vijay finally appeared, people began pushing one another and throwing footwear at his campaign vehicle to gain his attention, resulting in numerous attendees losing consciousness.

Officials reported that police resorted to baton charges to disperse the gathering.

Sundar, however, questioned the police response: "Why did officers use baton charges? Numerous videos have now emerged. This must have been a planned and orchestrated incident."

In response to opposition claims that Vijay represents the BJP's "B-team," senior BJP leader Tamilisai Soundararajan remarked, "I'm unfamiliar with 'A-team' or 'B-team' designations. There could be teams from 'A to Z'. I cannot comment. The BJP is pleased. We are the 'P-team' – the people's team."

Sources revealed on Saturday that the BJP reached out to Vijay's party following the stampede – suggesting the saffron party is working to leverage the actor's substantial fan base to enhance its prospects in the 2026 Tamil Nadu assembly elections. According to these sources, a high-ranking BJP official communicated to the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leadership that Vijay would receive support if unfairly targeted by the DMK.

The BJP also reportedly informed the TVK of its intention to challenge the DMK and advised Vijay to remain patient, according to sources.
