Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has pledged a thorough investigation into the Karur stampede tragedy that claimed 41 lives during actor-politician Vijay's TVK party rally. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin expressed profound sorrow regarding the Karur tragedy on Saturday, confirming that the state government is implementing comprehensive measures to establish accountability and prevent similar incidents in the future.

In a statement shared on X platform, Stalin declared, "The Tamil Nadu government is addressing all observations and directives issued by the Honourable High Court concerning the Karur tragedy with the highest degree of seriousness. We are collectively devastated by the tragic events in Karur. I experience immense grief for every family enduring the loss of their loved ones and share in their sorrow and anguish."

Stalin confirmed that a Special Investigation Team (SIT), established as per the Honourable High Court's orders, will initiate its investigation. He assured citizens that as Chief Minister, he will guarantee the investigation reveals complete transparency and enforces accountability across all levels.

"A Special Investigation Team, formed under the Honourable High Court's directive, will begin its inquiry. As Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister, I pledge to the public that this investigation will uncover the entire truth. Accountability will be maintained at every level," Stalin stated.

Additionally, the Chief Minister outlined strategies to prevent future tragedies of this nature. "Tamil Nadu, which leads India in numerous domains, will also establish precedents in preventing stampede disasters. We will engage with departmental experts, political organizations, activists, and citizens throughout the state to develop comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures. These protocols will serve as a benchmark not only for Tamil Nadu but for the entire nation," he explained.

Stressing the importance of solidarity, Stalin urged all political entities to refrain from politicizing the tragedy. "Rather than casting blame for political advantage, we will pursue sustainable solutions. I welcome everyone's contributions and recommendations for this collaborative endeavor. Every life holds immeasurable value. Let us collaborate to protect our citizens and ensure such devastating incidents never recur in Tamil Nadu or anywhere across India," he emphasized.

Meanwhile, National Commission for Scheduled Castes Chairman Kishor Makwana visited the stampede site in Karur district's Velusamy area on Saturday, where 41 individuals perished during a rally organized by actor-politician Vijay's Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam party on September 27. The District Collector accompanied him during the inspection.

When questioned about actions against TVK General Secretary Anand and party leader CTR Nirmal Kumar following their rejected anticipatory bail applications, Karur Superintendent of Police K Josh Thangaiah responded, "Madras High Court has established a Special Investigation Team."

The Madras High Court has constituted an SIT under Inspector-General of Police (North) Asra Garg's leadership to investigate the incident. The Court instructed Karur Police to immediately transfer all relevant documentation to the SIT.

Furthermore, the Court has prohibited political rallies, roadshows, and similar public gatherings along state and national highways in Tamil Nadu until appropriate Standard Operating Procedures are developed to guarantee public safety.

The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court dismissed anticipatory bail petitions filed by TVK General Secretary Anand and Joint Secretary CTR Nirmal Kumar related to the Karur stampede case.

The fatal stampede occurred during a public rally led by TVK chief and actor Vijay on September 27, claiming 41 lives and injuring numerous others. Initial assessments indicated deficiencies in crowd management contributed to the chaotic situation.

On Friday, Justice N Senthilkumar of the Madras High Court also rejected the anticipatory bail petition submitted by TVK district secretary N Sathish Kumar in connection with the same incident. The Court questioned the party's inability to manage the crowd and highlighted the "unruly conduct" of party members, including destruction of public property during the event.
