Mumbai (Maharashtra):
Several districts in Maharashtra have been issued a cyclone 'Shakti' warning by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), with high to moderate cyclone alerts in effect from October 3 to 7.
The official release indicates that the warning encompasses Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg. Wind speeds of 45-55 kmph, with gusts potentially reaching 65 kmph, are expected to affect the North Maharashtra coastline between October 3 and 5.
Depending on the cyclone's intensity, wind speeds may increase further. The sea conditions are predicted to be very rough, with turbulent waters anticipated along the northern Maharashtra coast until October 5.
Authorities are strongly advising fishermen to avoid any sea ventures during this period.
The IMD has also forecasted heavy to very heavy rainfall across interior Maharashtra, especially in East Vidarbha and portions of Marathwada. Low-lying areas in North Konkan face flooding risks due to intense cloud formations and increased atmospheric moisture.
In response to the cyclone 'Shakti' warning, the Maharashtra government has issued comprehensive preparation instructions. District administrations have been directed to activate disaster management protocols, develop evacuation strategies for residents in coastal and low-lying regions, issue public safety advisories, discourage sea travel, and maintain safety measures during the anticipated heavy rainfall.
