The perpetrator Monu, also known as Manoj Chauhan, voluntarily surrendered to law enforcement authorities.
Following two high-profile murders this year involving the now-notorious blue drum, a similar incident has been reported from Madhya Pradesh. Authorities discovered a woman's decomposed remains inside a blue drum at a residence in Dewas district. The victim was found with her extremities bound and dressed in traditional Garba attire. She was allegedly drowned inside the container by an individual described as her friend, reportedly because she was romantically involved with another person.
The victim, identified as 22-year-old Lakshita Chaudhary, was killed on Monday.
The 35-year-old suspect, Monu (alias Manoj Chauhan), turned himself in to police. He admitted to drowning her in a blue drum inside his residence located in Vaishali Avenue Colony.
According to Lakshita's family members, she had been unaccounted for over a three-day period. She left home on Monday, stating she was heading to college, but never returned.
Her family subsequently filed a missing person report with local authorities.
Residents of Vaishali Avenue Colony became alarmed when a foul odor began emanating from Monu's house.
Upon investigating the premises, police discovered Lakshita's body wrapped in a bedsheet near a blue drum.
During questioning, Monu allegedly confessed to authorities that he harbored romantic feelings for Lakshita but killed her in a fit of rage after learning about her relationship with another individual.
He reportedly lured Lakshita to his residence, restrained her limbs, submerged her in the water-filled drum, and abandoned her body in a room before fleeing the scene.
A Dewas Police representative stated that the victim's remains have been transported to Indore for autopsy, and the accused remains under interrogation.
Speaking to media outlets, the victim's father expressed, "Any father's daughter could fall victim to such a heinous act. I hope the perpetrator receives capital punishment."
Previous incidents involving blue drums occurred in March and August of this year.
In Meerut, a man was allegedly murdered by his spouse and her paramour. They dismembered the victim's body and concealed the remains under fresh cement inside a drum.
Similarly, in Rajasthan's Alwar district, a man was killed by his wife and her lover. His body was discovered on the upper floor of a rented accommodation when the elderly landlady detected a putrid smell emanating from the drum.
