India's Economic Resilience Amid Global Structural Transformation: Finance Minister Sitharaman

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman highlights India's strong capacity to absorb external economic shocks during global structural transformation. She emphasizes that India's sustainable economic growth is anchored in domestic factors, positioning the country as a stabilizing force in turbulent global economic conditions shaped by geopolitical conflicts and changing alliances.

Wars Are Redrawing Boundaries Of Cooperation, Conflict: Nirmala Sitharaman

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman stated on Friday that India possesses strong capacity to withstand external economic shocks during this period of global structural transformation.

She emphasized that nations must not only manage uncertainty but also address trade, financial, and energy imbalances.

"Geopolitical conflicts are intensifying. Sanctions, tariffs, and decoupling strategies are reshaping global supply chains. For India, these dynamics highlight both vulnerability and resilience. Our capacity to absorb shocks is strong, while our economic leverage is evolving," Sitharaman remarked at the Kautilya Economic Conclave 2025 in New Delhi.

She added, "Our choices will determine whether resilience becomes a foundation for leadership or merely a buffer against uncertainty."

During her address on 'Seeking Prosperity in Turbulent Times', the Finance Minister observed that wars and strategic rivalries are reconfiguring cooperation and conflict boundaries. "Alliances that once appeared solid are being tested, and new coalitions are emerging."

"What we face is not a temporary disruption but a structural transformation," she emphasized.

Sitharaman highlighted the resilience and sustainable growth of the Indian economy, noting that with steady consumption and investment shares in overall GDP over the years, India's growth remains firmly anchored in domestic factors, which reduces the impact of external shocks on overall growth.

"India's rise as a stabilizing force is neither accidental nor transient; instead, it results from a powerful combination of factors," Sitharaman concluded.
