Kunal and Komal remain legally married despite recent violent developments.
In a shocking incident in Sonipat, Haryana, a 25-year-old man was violently assaulted on his way home from work by his in-laws. The attack was reportedly motivated by his refusal to remove wedding photos from social media after his wife allegedly remarried. Attackers wielding sharp weapons left the victim with severe injuries including broken limbs.
Kunal had married his girlfriend Komal Goswami on June 26, 2024, against the wishes of her parents. Their marriage was short-lived as Komal returned to her parents' home just months after the wedding.
Speaking from his hospital bed, Kunal explained, "Following our marriage, Komal's parents frequently initiated arguments. They eventually called her back home claiming her grandmother was ill."
The situation deteriorated when Komal allegedly filed domestic violence charges against Kunal and demanded monthly maintenance of Rs 30,000, substantially exceeding his Rs 12,000 monthly income.
Kunal later discovered that Komal's family had arranged a second marriage for her with a man from Shamli, Uttar Pradesh. Reportedly, Komal's new in-laws questioned the existence of photos from her first wedding, prompting her family to pressure Kunal to remove these images from his social media accounts.
The violent confrontation occurred on September 24, when Kunal was returning home with his father. They were intercepted and attacked by assailants on motorcycles.
Kunal recounted, "Komal's father demanded I delete pictures from Instagram. I questioned how they could arrange Komal's remarriage without a legal divorce."
The case remains legally complex as Kunal and Komal are still officially married, with court proceedings scheduled for October 25.
"Three or four individuals beat me with batons while one recorded the assault on his phone. Komal's father Satish and uncle Rakesh observed the attack without intervention," Kunal stated.
Kunal continues to receive medical treatment for his injuries.
Following a complaint filed by Kunal's father, police have registered a case against Komal's father, uncle, and other perpetrators on charges including culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
