Haryana YouTuber Wasim Akram Arrested For Espionage Activities Connected to Pakistan's ISI

Authorities in Haryana's Palwal district have detained YouTuber Wasim Akram on allegations of espionage activities for Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and its High Commission, officials revealed on Thursday.

According to law enforcement, Akram, who hails from Kot village in Palwal and created YouTube content about Mewat's history, was apprehended on Wednesday.

Investigators report that Akram maintained communication with Pakistani operatives over a three-year period and allegedly provided them with SIM cards.

The police have discovered numerous compromising WhatsApp exchanges on Akram's phone, including some that had been deleted. The cyber division is currently working to recover these messages from his device.

Last week, Palwal police arrested another suspected Pakistani spy named Taufiq, who subsequently provided information leading to Akram. Akram reportedly established contact with a Pakistani agent called Danish in 2021 while submitting a visa application for Pakistan.

Despite his family's denial of Akram traveling to Pakistan, his interrogation revealed several facts indicating his cross-border connections.

Police officials state that both Akram and Taufiq communicated with the ISI and Pakistan High Commission through internet-based calls.

SP Varun Singla has directed the Palwal crime branch and related departments to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the matter.

The Intelligence Bureau is also coordinating with local police. Officials anticipate additional arrests in the coming days as the investigation progresses.

Taufiq, a resident of Alimev village in the district, was taken into custody on September 26.

Accused of transmitting sensitive information to Pakistan since 2022, Taufiq identified Akram during his interrogation, according to police.

"Both suspects maintained contact with the Pakistan High Commission and ISI. Crime branch teams are interrogating them while they remain in police custody," stated SP Singla.
