President Murmu Highlights Operation Sindoor as Symbol of Victory Over Terrorism at Red Fort Dussehra Celebration

President Droupadi Murmu participated in the Dussehra celebrations at Delhi's Red Fort on Thursday despite rainy weather, where she drew parallels between the Indian armed forces' Operation Sindoor and the symbolic victory over terrorism, comparing it to the defeat of Ravana.

At Madhavdas Park within the Red Fort complex, the President symbolically drew a bow to initiate the "Ravan Dahan" ceremony, emphasizing that Dussehra has traditionally represented the victory of righteousness over evil forces, humility defeating arrogance, and love prevailing over hatred.

"Terrorism's assault on humanity necessitates appropriate countermeasures. Operation Sindoor represents our triumph against terrorism's Ravana, and we extend our gratitude to our military personnel for this achievement," President Murmu stated.

Operation Sindoor was a military initiative launched on May 7 targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan. This action was taken in response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, where armed terrorists killed 26 civilians, predominantly tourists.

The President noted that despite the continuous rainfall, numerous citizens gathered at the Red Fort to witness the traditional burning of Ravana's effigy.

Reflecting on Lord Ram's legendary victory over Ravana, President Murmu explained the deeper significance behind the effigy burning tradition.

"This ceremonial act symbolizes not only the destruction of external evil represented by Ravana but also encourages us to eliminate negative qualities within ourselves. True societal progress toward peace and harmony requires this internal transformation," she emphasized, encouraging citizens to overcome personal vices.

Cabinet Minister Smriti Irani was also present at the celebration. Despite the rain, attendees observed the proceedings while sheltering under umbrellas.
