The case was initiated following court orders.
A woman, whose supposed death led to her husband and in-laws facing dowry death charges for two years, has surprisingly been discovered alive.
The 20-year-old disappeared from her marital residence in Uttar Pradesh's Auraiya district in 2023. When she remained unlocated for a period, her family filed a missing person's report on October 23 of that year. After extensive searches yielded no results, her family claimed she was killed over dowry demands. Subsequently, under court directive, charges were filed against her husband and six in-laws, including Section 304B (dowry death) of the Indian Penal Code.
For two years, the legal proceedings continued until the case was taken up by the Special Operations Group and surveillance teams of the Uttar Pradesh police, who eventually located her in Madhya Pradesh.
Auraiya Circle Officer Ashok Kumar Singh stated, "The woman disappeared one and a half years after her marriage. Her family filed a missing person's complaint, and following court instructions, a case was registered against her husband and several in-laws."
"The investigation continued, and we successfully traced her to Madhya Pradesh. She was returned to Auraiya on Wednesday, and further investigation is ongoing," he added.
Officials are now investigating what the woman was doing in Madhya Pradesh and why she didn't contact her family or in-laws for such an extended period. "This will definitely impact the court proceedings," an official noted.
