Bengaluru:
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has issued a stern warning to Congress workers against engaging in discussions about leadership change in the state. Amid growing demands to replace Chief Minister Siddaramaiah with Shivakumar himself, the Deputy CM emphasized that such statements are "causing damage to the party" and warned that notices will be issued to those making these comments.
The warning comes after recent claims by party MLA HD Ranganath, who is related to Shivakumar, and former Mandya MP LR Shivarame Gowda suggesting that leadership changes would occur next month. Shivakumar firmly dismissed these claims, stating, "No one is permitted to speak on power sharing, including Kunigal MLA H D Ranganath. I have instructed Congress state working president GC Chandrashekhar to issue notices."
With the renewed speculation circulating, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had yesterday firmly declared that he would complete his full five-year term. Shivakumar emphasized that the matter is now closed following Siddaramaiah's statement, adding that both leaders are "disciplined soldiers" of the Congress party who will respect and follow the high command's decisions.
"There is no discussion on power sharing. I am the one saying this. Such matters should not be discussed," Shivakumar reminded his supporters. "No questions about it. Whatever Siddaramaiah has stated is final. After his statement, this topic should not be discussed by anyone. Those speaking on either his or my behalf are damaging the party and engaging in anti-party activities," the Congress state chief asserted.
"Siddaramaiah has stated that he is not important but the party is. We will obey the party's directives. That is what we should do," he further added.
The Deputy Chief Minister also took a jab at the BJP regarding claims about a finalized revolution. He advised party workers to let the BJP discuss its internal revolution, saying, "I will provide them (BJP leaders) with needle and thread. Let them stitch the torn portion in their party."
