A 50-year-old man was fatally attacked by three individuals over a long-standing property dispute in Jharkhand's Seraikela-Kharswan district, according to police officials.
The victim, identified as Baidhar Pradhan from Kolaidih village in the Kuchai block, was returning home with his wife and 19-year-old son from a Durga Puja fair on Tuesday evening when the assault occurred. The family was traveling on a motorcycle when the attackers struck near Supaisai village within the jurisdiction of Kharswan police station.
Assailants used a sharp weapon in the attack, killing Baidhar instantly at the scene. His wife and son suffered injuries during the incident and are currently receiving treatment at a local hospital.
Kharswan police station Officer-in-charge Gaurav Kumar confirmed that the suspects have been identified and will be apprehended soon. He revealed that the victim and the primary suspect were relatives who had previously been imprisoned together in connection with a murder case in 2005.
Police have recovered the body and sent it to Sadar Hospital for post-mortem examination. Authorities stated that the murder stemmed from an ongoing land dispute between the parties.
In response to tensions in the area following the incident, police have deployed additional personnel to Kolaidih village to maintain law and order.
