Following a bye-election, Irfan Solanki's wife Nasim Solanki was elected as MLA.
Maharajganj:
Former Samajwadi Party MLA Irfan Solanki, who received bail last week from the Allahabad High Court in a Gangsters Act case, was released from jail on Tuesday after approximately 34 months of imprisonment, according to officials.
He exited the jail at 6:15 pm, they confirmed.
His mother Khurshida Begum, MLA wife Nasim Solanki, and their children were present to welcome him upon release.
Numerous Samajwadi Party supporters gathered outside Maharajganj jail since morning, chanting slogans supporting Irfan Solanki as he stood through his car's sunroof waving to the crowd.
Upon release, Irfan Solanki stated this represented a victory for justice, adding, "I have faith in my Allah."
Recently, another prominent SP leader Azam Khan, who faced multiple charges, was also released on bail from Sitapur jail following approximately two years of imprisonment after receiving a high court order.
The Allahabad High Court granted Irfan Solanki bail on September 25 in a Gangsters Act case, which was the final pending case against him. Although his release was initially scheduled for the following day, it was delayed due to the slow transfer of high court documentation to jail authorities.
Irfan Solanki, who previously served as MLA from Sisamau in Kanpur, had been imprisoned since December 2, 2022, facing a total of 10 cases. In a subsequent bye-election, his wife Nasim Solanki won the MLA seat.
Earlier, Nasim Solanki informed reporters that her husband's release was anticipated by that evening.
