TVK Officials Remanded to 14-Day Judicial Custody Following Deadly Karur Stampede Incident

Two Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) district secretaries have been remanded to 14-day judicial custody in connection with the September 27 Karur rally stampede that killed 41 and injured nearly 60. The officials face multiple charges including culpable homicide while Tamil Nadu establishes a commission to investigate the tragedy.

2 TVK Members Sent To 14-Day Judicial Custody In Karur Stampede Case

Two officials from the TVK party were remanded to 14 days' judicial custody on Tuesday in relation to the tragic stampede at a party rally in Karur that claimed 41 lives and left nearly 60 others injured on September 27, according to police reports.

V P Mathiyalagan, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam's Karur West District Secretary, and Kasi Pounraj, the Karur Central District Secretary, were named in the First Information Report (FIR) and subsequently placed in judicial custody, authorities confirmed.

Police further stated that while TVK state general secretary Bussy Anand and deputy general secretary Nirmal Kumar have also been named in the FIR, they have not yet been apprehended.

The accused individuals face charges under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including Section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), Section 110 (attempt to commit culpable homicide), Section 125 (endangering the life of others), and Section 223 (disobedience to order).

In response to the incident, the Tamil Nadu government has established a one-member commission led by retired judge Aruna Jagadeesan to investigate the alleged stampede that occurred during the TVK chief's rally in Karur on September 27.
