Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to join the Durga Puja celebrations at the renowned Kali Mandir and Shiva Temple in Chittaranjan Park (CR Park), South Delhi, on Tuesday, which coincides with the sacred Ashtami day.
This visit represents an important moment during the Navratri festival season, which annually attracts substantial crowds to the area.
In anticipation of the Prime Minister's arrival, a Special Protection Group (SPG) team conducted thorough security assessments throughout the vicinity on Monday.
As part of enhanced security measures, local residents have reportedly been directed to clear all vehicles from the main roads leading to the event location. Street vendors and hawkers have also been requested to temporarily relocate from certain areas to facilitate smooth movement and effective crowd management.
The Delhi Traffic Police has issued a public advisory warning of considerable traffic disruptions around CR Park due to the expected increase in visitors during the festivities. According to their statement, heavy traffic congestion is anticipated on major roads, including segments of the Outer Ring Road (particularly between Panchsheel and Greater Kailash), Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg, JB Tito Marg, Inder Mohan Bhardwaj Marg, and the main thoroughfare of CR Park.
Additionally, vehicle movement will be restricted on Gurudwara Road, Bipin Chandra Pal Marg, and various internal streets within CR Park and GK-II. Traffic diversions will be implemented from key locations, including beneath the Panchsheel, IIT, and Nehru Place flyovers. Both light and heavy goods vehicles will be redirected accordingly.
Commuters have been advised to avoid these affected routes and instead utilize alternative roads such as MG Road, Aurobindo Marg, Mathura Road, Lala Lajpat Rai Road, and Mehrauli-Badarpur Road. These traffic restrictions are expected to remain in effect until October 2.
The Prime Minister's participation in these celebrations is viewed as a demonstration of cultural solidarity and respect for the deeply embedded spiritual traditions associated with Durga Puja, one of India's most widely celebrated festivals.
The CR Park Durga Puja, among the most significant in the capital, features elaborate pandals, colorful cultural performances, and traditional religious ceremonies, drawing thousands of devotees from across the Delhi-NCR region. The Kali Mandir complex in CR Park, established during the 1970s, serves as a vital spiritual and cultural center for Delhi's Bengali community.
