New Delhi:

Delhi is preparing to unveil its first official logo, an initiative that the government believes will establish a unique visual identity for India's capital city.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced on Monday the establishment of an expert committee tasked with evaluating and finalizing the design. The Secretary of the Department of General Administration will chair this committee, with the Joint Secretary acting as Member Secretary. The panel also includes specialists from various academic institutions.

"This logo will become a new emblem representing Delhi's distinctive character," explained Ms Gupta while detailing the selection process.

The search for Delhi's official logo commenced earlier this month through a competition hosted on the MyGov portal. The submission period concluded on September 26, with officials confirming receipt of 1,800 design proposals from throughout India.

The expert panel will now thoroughly assess these submissions before creating a shortlist and determining the winning design.

According to the Chief Minister, the chosen logo should capture Delhi's rich historical legacy, cultural heritage, and developmental progress, while simultaneously reflecting the aspirations of its citizens. She emphasized that the government envisions a logo that demonstrates modern governance principles and civic participation.

"This logo will function as a new symbol of Delhi's unique identity. The government intends for it to embody modern, transparent, and citizen-focused governance," stated Ms Gupta.

Government representatives note that this initiative marks the first attempt to provide Delhi with an official emblem, which will enhance the city's representation and recognition at both national and international levels.
