Indian Navy Strengthens Maritime Ties with Kenya Through Collaborative Activities and Naval Diplomacy

The Indian Navy's First Training Squadron conducted various engagement activities in Kenya including yoga sessions, firefighting demonstrations, and a joint band performance, strengthening bilateral maritime cooperation under the MAHASAGAR initiative. Four Indian naval vessels made a port call at Mombasa as part of their Southwest Indian Ocean deployment, fostering deeper security partnerships and cultural exchange between the two maritime neighbors.

Indian Navy Conducts Wide-Ranging Activities During Port Call In Kenya

The First Training Squadron of the Indian Navy engaged in collaborative activities with the Kenya Navy during their recent port visit, including a dynamic yoga session.

During its port call in Kenya, the Indian Navy's First Training Squadron (1TS) conducted various engagement activities, including an energetic yoga session and a collaborative band performance with the Kenya Navy, as announced by the Navy spokesperson on Sunday.

The Indian Navy Spokesperson shared on social media platform X: "1TS in Kenya- Activities during the port call included a spirited #yoga session, comprehensive briefing on fire fighting and damage control drills. The combined band performance by the #IndianNavy and #KenyaNavy won the heart of audience with enthralling rendition of vibrant tunes."

In a separate post, the spokesperson highlighted how senior officers from 1TS engaged with Kenyan counterparts: "Senior Officer #1TS and COs of visiting ships called on Major Gen Paul Owuor Otieno, Cdr #KenyaNavy and held discussions on topics of mutual interest. A deck reception was hosted onboard #INSShardul, bolstering deep-rooted historical linkages and maritime cooperation b/n the two nations."

India and Kenya share a maritime neighborhood relationship. Their bilateral ties have evolved into a comprehensive partnership featuring regular high-level diplomatic exchanges, growing trade and investment relations, and extensive people-to-people connections.

The Indian Naval vessels of the First Training Squadron - INS Tir, INS Sujata, INS Shardul, and ICGS Sarathi - arrived at Mombasa, Kenya on September 25.

These ships are currently on an extended training deployment across the Southwest Indian Ocean Region, having previously visited Seychelles, Mauritius, Reunion, and Mozambique.

This 1TS visit aims to reinforce the maritime partnership and collaborative initiatives between the Indian and Kenyan navies, embodying the principles of MAHASAGAR - Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions.
