Jasprit Bumrah's celebration after dismissing Haris Rauf has captured widespread attention online.
New Delhi:
Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah's 'plane down' celebration after taking Haris Rauf's wicket during the Asia Cup final in Dubai has become a viral sensation. As the footage continues to circulate across social media platforms, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju shared a screenshot depicting Rauf's dislodged off-stump alongside Bumrah's gesture, with the caption: "Pakistan deserves this punishment."
India clinched a five-wicket victory against Pakistan in the Asia Cup final yesterday, securing their ninth championship title. The tournament was surrounded by controversy due to provocative on-field gestures from Pakistani players and the Indian team's decision to refuse handshakes with their opponents, following the Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 innocent lives and prompted India to initiate Operation Sindoor.
During the earlier Super Fours encounter between the two nations, Rauf had directed a 'plane down' gesture toward Indian supporters, apparently referencing Pakistan's unsubstantiated claims of shooting down six Indian aircraft during Operation Sindoor. Team India patiently awaited their opportunity for response, which arrived when Bumrah's blistering delivery uprooted Rauf's off-stump last night. The Indian pacer subsequently replied to Rauf with his own version of the gesture.
Following India's tense victory, dramatic scenes unfolded during the presentation ceremony as the Indian team refused to accept the trophy from Asian Cricket Council president and Pakistani minister Mohsin Naqvi. Eventually, Naqvi departed from the stage, leaving the Indian team to celebrate their triumph without the physical trophy.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the Indian cricket team on X, stating: "OperationSindoor on the games field. Outcome is the same - India wins! Congrats to our cricketers."
Union Home Minister Amit Shah described the achievement as a "phenomenal victory," adding: "The fierce energy of our boys blew up the rivals again. Bharat is destined to win no matter which field."
