Comedian Kapil Sharma has been the target of extortion threats, leading to an arrest in West Bengal.
Mumbai police have apprehended a West Bengal resident for allegedly threatening the popular comedian Kapil Sharma and demanding Rs 1 crore. The suspect reportedly used the names of notorious gangsters Rohit Godara and Goldy Brar to intimidate his victim.
According to Mumbai police officials, the accused, identified as Dilip Choudhary, contacted Sharma's personal assistant on September 22 and 23. During these calls, he demanded a substantial sum while claiming associations with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang and other criminal figures including Godara and Brar.
The investigation revealed that Choudhary didn't limit his threats to phone calls. He also sent threatening video messages to Sharma's assistant, escalating the severity of the situation.
Taking swift action, a specialized team from the Mumbai crime branch tracked down Choudhary's location in West Bengal. They successfully arrested him on Friday after traveling across state lines to apprehend him.
Following his arrest, Choudhary was presented before a court that has remanded him in police custody until September 30 for further investigation.
