India Launches Indigenous 4G Network: Joining Global Elite in Telecom Manufacturing Excellence

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated BSNL's indigenous 4G network, developed at an investment of approximately Rs 37,000 crore, positioning India among an elite group of nations with homegrown telecom equipment manufacturing capabilities.

During BSNL's 25th anniversary celebration, the Prime Minister commissioned over 97,500 mobile 4G towers, including 92,600 4G technology sites built using indigenous technology. This achievement places India alongside countries like Denmark, Sweden, South Korea, and China in developing domestic telecom infrastructure.

The newly launched Indian-made network features cloud-based architecture with future-ready capabilities, designed for seamless upgrades to 5G technology according to official sources.

Prime Minister Modi shared on social media platform: "The double-engine government is committed to accelerating the pace of development in Odisha. Addressing a programme during the launch of various projects in Jharsuguda."

An official statement described the indigenous 4G network rollout as a transformative step aligned with the Prime Minister's Digital India vision, aimed at bridging the digital divide and empowering rural communities while establishing foundations for BSNL's future 5G integration.

The initiative will connect over 26,700 previously unserved villages, including 2,472 in Odisha, located in remote, border and left-wing extremism-affected regions. This expansion is expected to serve more than 20 lakh new subscribers.

Notably, these towers are powered by solar energy, making them India's largest cluster of environmentally friendly telecom infrastructure and advancing sustainable development goals.

Additionally, the Prime Minister unveiled India's complete 4G saturation network through the digital Bharat Nidhi program, connecting 29,000-30,000 villages through a mission-mode implementation project.
