Political Storm Erupts: BJP Ministers Under Fire for Controversial Remarks on Rahul-Priyanka Gandhi Relationship

Madhya Pradesh's political landscape has become increasingly tense as Urban Development Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya's controversial comments about the Rahul-Priyanka Gandhi sibling relationship receive support from fellow cabinet member Vijay Shah, sparking widespread Congress protests and debates about cultural values and political discourse in India.

Will I Kiss Her? Row Deepens After Madhya Pradesh Minister's Remark On Rahul-Priyanka Gandhi Bond

Bhopal: The controversy surrounding Madhya Pradesh Urban Development Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya's comments about Rahul Gandhi's relationship with his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has escalated further, with cabinet colleague Vijay Shah now publicly supporting his stance.

At an event in Khandwa, Mr. Shah, who has previously faced criticism for inflammatory remarks, intensified the dispute by stating: "This is not our culture; our civilization, customs, and traditions do not teach this. Whatever they teach, practice it in your own homes, not at public places."

During his speech, Mr. Shah referenced MLA Kanchan Tanve, saying: "She is also my real sister, so would I kiss her in public? Indian culture and civilization do not teach this," reinforcing Vijayvargiya's criticism regarding public displays of sibling affection.

This isn't Mr. Shah's first controversial statement. In May 2025, following Operation Sindoor, he made highly contentious remarks about Colonel Sophia Qureshi that he later apologized for, saying: "I am not God, I am a human being, and if anyone's sentiments have been hurt, I apologize ten times over."

The Congress party has responded with widespread protests, burning effigies of Mr. Vijayvargiya and condemning Mr. Shah's defense of him. Congress spokesperson KK Mishra expressed frustration: "It is unfortunate that no action is taken against BJP ministers who use abusive and derogatory language."

State Congress president Jitu Patwari described Vijayvargiya's comments as "disgusting" and "a direct challenge to India's culture, tradition, and the sacred brother-sister relationship." He demanded both ministers resign, suggesting that at 70 years old, Vijayvargiya's "absurd statements" stem from frustration at not becoming Chief Minister.

With Mr. Shah now backing Mr. Vijayvargiya, what began as controversial remarks has developed into a significant political confrontation. The ministers stand accused of manipulating cultural values for political advantage, while opposition forces intensify their efforts to challenge the ruling BJP on issues of dignity, appropriate language, and respect for women.
