The police had to shoot the perpetrator in both legs after he opened fire on officers during his arrest.
In Sambhal, authorities have apprehended a man following an encounter for allegedly throwing acid on a teacher, police announced on Friday.
Police also arrested a woman identified as Jahanvi alias Archana in connection with the case.
According to police reports, the male suspect has been identified as Nishu Tiwari (30), who resides in Tigri village in Amroha district.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Krishna Kumar reported that on September 23, in the Nakhasa police station jurisdiction, a 22-year-old teacher was returning from school when the accused, traveling on a scooter, threw acid on her face near Dehpa village.
The victim suffered 20 to 30 percent burns as a result of the attack.
Following the incident, the injured teacher was admitted to the district hospital for medical treatment. The SP stated that police acted quickly to capture the perpetrator.
He explained that when Nakhasa police intercepted Nishu late Thursday night near Kalyanpur village, he fired at the officers, forcing them to return fire in self-defense, striking him in both legs.
After his arrest, Nishu was transported to the district hospital. Police recovered a pistol, two cartridges, and the scooter used in the crime.
In a statement to reporters, SP Kumar mentioned that the victim, who experienced severe burns, is currently receiving medical treatment and is no longer in danger.
During interrogation, Nishu claimed he was manipulated into a relationship by a woman he met through social media. This woman, who presented herself as "Dr. Archana," told Nishu that her sister, Jahanvi, had been engaged to a soldier who canceled the wedding because he already had a fiancée.
She allegedly provoked Nishu to take revenge against the teacher, who was supposedly the soldier's fiancée. Nishu, formerly employed as a chemist, purchased acid and executed the attack.
Further investigation revealed that Jahanvi and Dr. Archana are actually the same individual, who created multiple online personas to manipulate Nishu.
According to police, the woman is married with three children and had previously escaped with Nishu after administering sleeping pills to her husband.
To facilitate her deception, she even had a facial mole surgically removed.
Both Nishu and Jahanvi have now been placed in judicial custody, the SP added.
