A horrific incident occurred in Madhya Pradesh on Friday when a five-year-old boy named Vikas was decapitated in his mother's presence by a man reportedly suffering from mental illness.

Witnesses reported that the perpetrator, 25-year-old Mahesh, arrived on a motorcycle and entered Kalu Singh's residence unexpectedly. The family had no prior acquaintance with him. Without any provocation, Mahesh grabbed a sharp spade-like implement from the house and violently attacked the child, completely severing his head. He then struck the boy's shoulder, further mutilating the young victim's body.

The child's mother sustained injuries during her desperate attempt to save her son. Her anguished cries alerted the entire village. Neighbors quickly responded to the scene, and in a fit of collective rage, villagers captured the assailant and severely beat him before police arrived.

Dhar Superintendent of Police Mayank Awasthi described the crime as "extremely heartbreaking" and confirmed that the accused succumbed to his injuries while being transported to the hospital after the mob attack. "We will determine the exact cause of death following the post-mortem examination. Preliminary investigations indicate he suffered from mental instability," stated Mr. Awasthi.

Authorities have registered a case against the deceased attacker and initiated a judicial inquiry into the circumstances of his death.

Further investigation revealed that Mahesh resided in Jobat Bagdi within Alirajpur district. His family informed police that he had been experiencing mental health issues and had been missing from home for three to four days prior to the incident. Reports indicate that approximately one hour before the brutal killing, he had allegedly attempted to steal merchandise from a nearby store.
