The Border Security Force has implemented a specialized training program specifically designed for robust and capable native dog breeds.
Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "Mann Ki Baat" address, the BSF has substantially enhanced its K9 unit by prioritizing the training of Indian breed dogs. This innovative initiative has already led to the successful integration of 150 indigenous canines into the BSF's operational dog squad teams.
The newly trained Indian dogs are demonstrating truly remarkable capabilities that showcase their exceptional potential.
During a recent demonstration at BSF's Tekanpur Training Centre located in Madhya Pradesh, these canines displayed skills that captivated all observers. One white indigenous dog, now a valuable member of the BSF's K9 squad, demonstrated extraordinary agility by leaping across an impressive 18-foot wall with exceptional precision and control.
The demonstrations continued to impress as another Indian breed dog exhibited outstanding physical prowess by ascending a 20-foot ladder before safely making its way back down—a testament to both their training and natural abilities.

The BSF's comprehensive training program places particular emphasis on powerful and capable native breeds, with special attention given to Rampur Hounds and Mudhol Hounds. Their commitment to developing a self-sustaining program is evident, with 20 of these specially selected dogs currently maintained at the BSF's Tekanpur Training Centre specifically for breeding purposes.
This forward-thinking initiative directly responds to Prime Minister Modi's call to recognize and harness the inherent strengths of indigenous dogs. During his "Mann Ki Baat" broadcast in August 2020, the Prime Minister spoke enthusiastically about the potential of native breeds including Rajapalayam, Kanni, Chippiparai, and Combai, emphasizing that "Indian breed dogs are very competent."
