Tej Pratap Yadav has announced his candidacy for the Bihar Assembly elections from the Mahua constituency
In a major political development preceding the Bihar Assembly elections, Tej Pratap Yadav, the elder son of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and former minister, has officially launched his new political party called Janshakti Janata Dal.
The newly formed party has adopted a blackboard as its election symbol. Its official poster prominently features influential historical leaders including Mahatma Gandhi, BR Ambedkar, Ram Manohar Lohia, Jayaprakash Narayan, and Karpoori Thakur.
According to the party's promotional materials, it will focus on key principles of "social justice, social rights, and total change."
In his announcement shared on the social media platform X, Tej Pratap Yadav stated, "We are fully dedicated and committed to the complete development of Bihar. Our aim is to bring about a complete transformation in Bihar and build a new system from the ground up. We are ready to fight a long battle for the complete development of Bihar."
The launch comes following Tej Pratap's expulsion from the RJD by his father Lalu Prasad for a six-year period on May 25. This action was reportedly taken after he admitted to being "in a relationship" with a woman named Anushka on social media. Despite Tej Pratap later deleting the post and claiming his account was "hacked," Lalu Prasad proceeded with the expulsion, citing his son's "irresponsible behaviour."
Earlier in July, Tej Pratap Yadav had declared his intention to contest the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections from the Mahua seat in Vaishali district.
Tej Pratap Yadav first entered politics during the assembly elections of 2015 and is currently serving as a second-term MLA. Throughout his political career, he has held brief positions within the state cabinet.
