Prime Minister Modi Honors Dr. Manmohan Singh's Legacy on 93rd Birth Anniversary: Celebrating a Lifetime of Economic Reform and Public Service

Manmohan Singh, an accomplished economist who served as the Reserve Bank of India Governor from 1982 to 1985, was honored on his 93rd birth anniversary by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Prime Minister Modi expressed his respect for the former Indian leader on social media platform X, stating, "Tributes to former PM Dr. Manmohan Singh Ji on his birth anniversary. We recall his contributions to our nation during his long years in public service."

Born on September 26, 1932, Dr. Singh's remarkable career includes serving as India's Finance Minister from 1991 to 1996, a period during which he implemented transformative economic reforms that garnered international recognition. He subsequently held the position of India's 13th Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014.

Dr. Singh's legacy includes landmark initiatives such as the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA), later renamed MGNREGA, and the Right to Information Act (RTI) in 2005. These significant policies enhanced transparency between the government and citizens.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also paid homage to Dr. Singh, describing him as a "gentle architect of India's economic transformation" who conducted himself with "quiet dignity." Kharge emphasized that Singh's economic vision created substantial opportunities for the nation, fostered a thriving middle class, and elevated numerous families out of poverty.

In his tribute, Kharge highlighted Singh's commitment to fairness and inclusivity, noting that the former Prime Minister ensured economic growth was accompanied by compassionate welfare measures that positively impacted millions of lives.
