A patient at a rehabilitation facility in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, was discovered to have swallowed numerous metal objects out of frustration. Medical professionals surgically removed 29 steel spoons, 19 toothbrushes, and 2 pens from his stomach after he complained of abdominal pain.
Sachin, a 35-year-old man from Hapur, had been placed in the rehabilitation center by his family members. His resentment about being left at the facility was intensified by what he described as inadequate food portions provided to patients. "Throughout the day, we would receive very small portions of vegetables and only a few chapatis. Items sent from home rarely reached us. Sometimes we would only get one biscuit per day," Sachin explained.
In his state of anger, Sachin would secretly take steel spoons from the facility's kitchen, retreat to the bathroom, break them into smaller pieces, and force them down his throat, occasionally using water to assist in swallowing them.
Eventually, he began experiencing severe stomach pain and was transported to a hospital. Diagnostic imaging including X-rays and CT scans revealed the alarming collection of foreign objects in his stomach. Medical staff initially attempted to remove the items through endoscopy, but this approach proved unsuccessful due to the large quantity of objects present. Dr. Shyam Kumar from the hospital where Sachin underwent surgery noted, "Such problems frequently occur in individuals with psychological issues."
