Eight-year-old Abhijot Singh, who had been battling a kidney disorder, has passed away. His story gained attention during the Punjab floods when NDTV launched a campaign to secure assistance for the child. Bollywood actor Sonu Sood recently shared the heartbreaking news of Abhijot's death on social media, stating, "Will miss you Avijot. RIP Little angel. Don't worry will take care of your parents."
Abhijot Singh was diagnosed with Nephrotic Syndrome, a serious kidney condition. His treatment required bimonthly visits to the PGIMER hospital in Chandigarh, with each journey from his village in Amritsar and the associated medical care costing approximately Rs 45,000.
The situation became more challenging when his family lost their sole income source after their farmland was submerged and crops destroyed during the recent Punjab floods. The flooding was so severe that villagers reportedly had to swim to access basic necessities.
NDTV highlighted Abhijot's difficult circumstances through their 'Save Abhijot' campaign. Following this initiative, philanthropist Sonu Sood and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann stepped forward with financial support. Mr. Sood personally visited young Abhijot and his family in Punjab.
According to Abhijot's father, Jasbir Singh, both of the boy's kidneys were damaged, requiring consistent medical care until he reached 18 years of age. However, the flooding prevented the family from traveling across the village to obtain necessary medications.
Medical professionals had believed that with proper treatment, Abhijot could overcome the disorder by the time he turned 18 and live a complete life. This prognosis had given his family hope for Abhijot's future.
