India Test-Fires Agni-Prime Missile. It Can Hit Targets 2,000 km Away

In a major move that puts India in an elite league of nations, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced that the country has carried out the successful test launch of the Intermediate Range Agni-Prime Missile from a Rail based Mobile launcher.

India has successfully conducted a test launch of the Intermediate Range Agni-Prime Missile from an innovative Rail based Mobile launcher system, as announced by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday.

This significant achievement places India among an exclusive group of nations possessing the technological capability to develop a canisterised launch system that can operate from a moving rail network, marking a major milestone in the country's defense capabilities.

The Agni-Prime missile, designed with a range capacity of up to 2,000 kilometers, incorporates various advanced features that enhance India's strategic defense posture. This development aligns perfectly with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of 'Aatmanirbharta' (self-reliance) in the defense sector.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh shared the achievement on his social media platform X, extending congratulations to the nation, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), the Strategic Forces Command (SFC), and the security forces for this remarkable accomplishment.

In his social media post, Singh highlighted the unique capabilities of this next-generation missile system: "The first-of-its-kind launch carried out from specially designed Rail based Mobile Launcher has the capability to move on Rail network without any pre-conditions that allows the User to have a cross country mobility and launch within a short reaction time with reduced visibility."

This innovative rail-based mobile launching system provides significant tactical advantages, including enhanced mobility across the country and the ability to deploy quickly with minimal detection. The successful test reinforces India's growing prowess in indigenous defense technology development and strategic deterrence capabilities.
