Shillong:
Former Manipur parliamentarian Lorho S Pfoze officially joined the National People's Party (NPP), which currently rules Meghalaya, on Tuesday.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma welcomed Dr. Pfoze into the party, highlighting that his extensive public service experience would bolster the NPP's efforts in advocating for Northeast interests.
"With his experience, wisdom, and substantial support base in Manipur, Dr. Lorho will undoubtedly strengthen our party. We are certain he will contribute significantly to advancing NPP's core principle of 'one voice, one Northeast'," Sangma stated.
The NPP president characterized Pfoze as a politician of integrity and transparency who has earned widespread acceptance among various communities across Manipur.
Sangma noted that the NPP has evolved into a unifying platform for all regional communities.
In his remarks, Pfoze expressed that the NPP should serve as an inclusive political entity for all Northeastern residents, with special focus on indigenous and tribal populations.
"Regional cooperation is essential. The vision established by NPP founder PA Sangma continues to inspire us all. I'm eager to collaborate with this party to connect with numerous communities, always adhering to principles of truth and honesty," he remarked.
The induction ceremony was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong along with NPP legislators from Manipur.
Pfoze previously secured the Outer Manipur constituency in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections as a candidate of the Naga People's Front (NPF).
