Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has issued a stern warning against property defacement and specifically directed party workers not to paste posters featuring her image.
On Tuesday, as part of the "Sewa Pakhwada" campaign commemorating Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday, Ms Gupta personally removed posters from a Ring Road flyover pillar and participated in a cleanliness drive in her Shalimar Bagh constituency.
"Defacing property through wall writings and poster pasting is a serious offense that degrades our city's appearance. I particularly caution politicians that property defacement will not be tolerated. Do not attempt to paste posters containing my photograph," she firmly stated.
The Chief Minister emphasized that cleanliness should be a continuous commitment rather than a one-time activity. She called for widespread participation from all community segments, including Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), elected representatives, and ordinary citizens.
Ms Gupta confirmed that the cleanliness initiative would be ongoing. Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Parvesh Verma also joined the cleanliness campaign, which centered on Delhi's Ring Road (Mahatma Gandhi Marg).
For the Sewa Pakhwada events, the PWD has segmented the 55-kilometer Ring Road into eight jurisdictional sections, with an engineer-in-charge appointed for each section to supervise cleaning and repairs over the forthcoming two weeks.
"We are committed to maintaining Delhi's cleanliness, and this drive is being implemented throughout the city with numerous party workers joining the campaign," Verma informed reporters.
While removing old banners and posters from walls and pillars, the Chief Minister stressed that cleanliness efforts should encompass not only roads and alleys but also public spaces, walls, and the entire environment.
She reiterated that cleanliness is not merely an action but a way of life, noting that the vision of "Swachh Bharat" would remain unfulfilled unless everyone collaborates to make cleanliness a daily habit.
Ministers from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Delhi, MLAs, MCD councillors, and senior party leaders also participated in the initiative.
Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva took part in the drive near Rose Garden under the ITO flyover on Ring Road. According to a Delhi BJP statement, party workers and leaders cleaned areas at 71 locations, including flyovers and surrounding areas along Ring Road.
Other prominent participants included Delhi BJP's General Secretary (organisation) Pawan Rana, Union minister Harsh Malhotra, South Delhi MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, State General Secretary Vishnu Mittal, North West Delhi MP Yogender Chandolia, and West Delhi MP Kamaljeet Sehrawat.
Delhi government ministers Manjinder Singh Sirsa and Ashish Sood joined the campaign at Raja Garden, while Transport Minister Pankaj Singh removed garbage near Dhaula Kuan.
