The Army announced on Tuesday that the strategic 91-kilometer road linking Hanle to Chumar border village in Ladakh is now accessible to the public.
This remarkable route spans across extreme elevations ranging from 14,500 feet to 17,200 feet, including the challenging Salsa La Pass.
"A 91 km road connecting Hanle to the border village of Chumar, constructed by Project Himank of the Border Roads Organisation, has been opened for public in Ladakh," stated the Army through its official X handle.
The Army further explained that while providing crucial strategic connectivity for military forces along the borders, this new road will also enhance local accessibility and tourism in the region by connecting popular attractions such as Hanle Observatory, Kyun Tso Lake, Chilling Tso Lake, and creating a route toward Tso Moriri.
According to the Army's statement, this infrastructure development represents a major achievement in strategic planning, simultaneously improving operational preparedness, supporting tourism development, and enhancing socio-economic growth in Ladakh's isolated regions.
