Omar Abdullah Condemns Nitish Kumar's Controversial Hijab Removal Incident

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has strongly criticized Bihar CM Nitish Kumar for removing a Muslim woman's face veil during an official event, calling it unjustifiable humiliation. Abdullah compared the incident to a similar past controversy involving Mehbooba Mufti and suggested Kumar might be revealing his true character despite his previously secular reputation.

Nitish Kumar has created significant controversy after removing the face veil of a Muslim woman.

Srinagar:

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday expressed strong criticism towards his Bihar counterpart regarding the hijab incident, suggesting that Nitish Kumar might be gradually revealing his true character.

"Nitish Kumar, who was once considered a secular leader, may be slowly showing his true colours," Abdullah stated to reporters on the sidelines of a function.

Abdullah firmly asserted that Kumar's action of removing the face veil of a Muslim woman doctor was inappropriate and cannot be justified under any circumstances.

"We have witnessed a similar incident here several years ago. Have you forgotten how Mehbooba Mufti removed the burqa of a legitimate voter inside a polling station? That act was wrong, and this act (of Kumar) is also wrong.

"If the (Bihar) chief minister did not want to hand over the order to her (Muslim woman), they could have kept her aside. However, to humiliate her like this is totally wrong," the Jammu and Kashmir chief minister emphasized.

Nitish Kumar generated enormous controversy after he removed the face veil of a Muslim woman during an official function earlier this week.
