Delhi To Get Bharat Taxis On January 1, An Alternative To Ola, Uber, Rapido

Delhi residents will soon have access to India's first cooperative taxi service 'Bharat Taxi' starting January 1. This government-launched initiative will provide an alternative to existing ride-hailing platforms such as Ola, Uber, and Rapido.

Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited will manage this innovative zero-commission model. All preparations have been finalized for the service launch.

The platform will offer multiple transportation options including cars, auto-rickshaws, and bikes. Available on both Android and iOS devices, users can easily register using their mobile numbers, specify pickup and destination locations, select their preferred ride, and monitor their journey in real-time.

Bharat Taxi comes equipped with numerous user-friendly features including straightforward mobile booking, transparent fare calculations, real-time vehicle tracking capabilities, multilingual interface support, and round-the-clock customer assistance. Safety measures incorporate integration with Delhi Police and other agencies, thorough driver verification processes, and ride detail sharing functionality.

A primary goal of this initiative is to address unregulated surge pricing during high-demand periods. The service has also implemented solutions for common passenger complaints such as drivers refusing rides or cancelling bookings unexpectedly.

The Bharat Taxi operates on a driver-owned cooperative system designed to enhance driver earnings and working conditions. Drivers will receive up to 80 percent of fares directly through a monthly credit system. This platform offers drivers an equitable alternative to working with private transportation companies.

According to government sources, approximately 56,000 drivers have already registered with Bharat Taxi. While testing has concluded in Delhi, similar trials are underway in Rajkot, Gujarat, where the service is expected to launch on February 1. Officials plan to gradually expand the service to over 20 cities across India.
