Bengaluru:
A tragic incident unfolded in Bengaluru yesterday that raises serious questions about human compassion. A 34-year-old mechanic, Venkataramanan, died on the roadside while his desperate wife begged for assistance from passersby, only to be ignored.
"Humanity failed to help my husband. I was covered in blood, pleading for help, but no one came," the grieving wife shared with profound sorrow.
Despite this heartbreaking experience, the family made the noble decision to donate Venkataramanan's eyes, ensuring his legacy would continue by giving sight to those in need.
Venkataramanan, who worked as a garage mechanic and lived in Balaji Nagar, experienced severe chest pain around 3:30 am yesterday. He and his wife immediately set out on their motorcycle seeking medical care, unaware of the devastating journey ahead.
In conversation with NDTV, his wife explained, "He complained about chest pain, and we went to the first hospital. But the doctor was not on duty. At the second hospital, we were told he had a stroke and to go to another hospital. When we called for ambulance services, they didn't respond properly. Humanity failed, but we did our bit by donating his eye."
After being turned away from two hospitals, tragedy struck as the couple had an accident. CCTV footage captured the heartbreaking scene of the wife imploring every passing vehicle for assistance while her husband lay suffering on the road. Tragically, no one stopped to help.
The ordeal finally ended when a compassionate cab driver stopped and rushed Venkataramanan to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, medical professionals pronounced him dead upon arrival.
Venkataramanan's mother, now having lost her last surviving child, was overwhelmed with grief: "I have no words. I don't know what to say. My son is gone."
His mother-in-law questioned, "The government should understand a health emergency. My daughter is left with two children. Who will look after them?"
Venkataramanan leaves behind his wife, mother, and two young children—a five-year-old son and an 18-month-old daughter.
