Man Kills Wife and Daughters Over Not Wearing Burqa in Uttar Pradesh

The accused has been taken into custody.

A man allegedly killed his wife and two daughters over not wearing a burqa and buried their bodies in a pit dug inside their house in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli.

The incident was discovered a week after the disappearance of Farooq's wife, Tahira (35), and their two daughters, Shareen (14) and Afreen (6). The village headman reported their absence to the police on Tuesday, which prompted an investigation. Police detained Farooq based on suspicion.

During questioning, Farooq admitted to the crime and revealed he had buried the bodies within their home.

A substantial police contingent, including Superintendent of Police NP Singh, hurried to the location and recovered the three bodies from the pit.

Investigators discovered that the incident stemmed from an argument when Farooq's wife requested money from him. In anger, she departed for her parents' residence without wearing a burqa, which made Farooq feel his "honour had been compromised," according to police reports. A month later, the accused brought his wife back home, murdered her and their daughters, then dug a pit inside their house to bury the bodies.

Farooq remains in custody, and the three bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination.

Police recovered a pistol and cartridges used in the murder from the accused, officials reported.

Initial investigations indicate the case relates to a domestic dispute. Police are continuing to interrogate the accused and are conducting a comprehensive investigation into the triple homicide, officials added.
