Dehradun municipal authorities have implemented stringent measures against pet dog owners whose animals attack people.

Following a series of dog attack incidents, particularly involving aggressive breeds such as Rottweilers, Dehradun's municipal corporation has established comprehensive regulations for dog ownership.

The newly formulated Dehradun Dog Licensing Bylaws-2025 stipulates that if a pet dog bites someone, the owner will not only face mandatory financial penalties but could also have an FIR registered against them. Additionally, the municipal corporation reserves the right to take the offending dog into custody.

These regulations, scheduled to take effect after official publication in the government gazette, mandate licensing for all dogs older than three months. The licenses will remain valid for one year from the registration or renewal date. Dog owners must submit an anti-rabies vaccination certificate issued by a qualified veterinarian during the registration process.
