Bengaluru Tragedy: Man Dies After Hospital Negligence and Public Indifference to Medical Emergency

A 34-year-old mechanic in Bengaluru died after hospitals failed to provide emergency treatment for his heart attack and passersby ignored his wife's desperate pleas for help following a motorcycle accident. This tragic incident highlights critical issues in emergency healthcare access and public response to medical emergencies in India, though the family's decision to donate his eyes brought a compassionate conclusion to their loss.

The video depicts the wife desperately pleading for assistance with folded hands.

Bengaluru:

A critically ill man and his wife, forced to travel from hospital to hospital on a motorcycle, encountered utter indifference, initially from the healthcare system and subsequently from passersby in Bengaluru after they met with an accident. The man lay on the road in excruciating pain for several minutes while his wife begged for help with folded hands, but vehicles continued to drive past without stopping.

Assistance eventually came from a compassionate cab driver who stopped, but tragically it was too late. By the time they reached a hospital, the 34-year-old man had passed away, leaving his five-year-old son and 18-month-old daughter fatherless.

His mother also lost her last surviving child, having already endured the loss of her other five children during her lifetime.

Venkataramanan, a mechanic employed at a garage, developed severe chest pain around 3:30 am at his residence in South Bengaluru's Balaji Nagar. Officials reported that he had previously experienced a minor heart attack, and his condition deteriorated rapidly, leaving him extremely weak and unwell.

With no immediate alternatives available, the couple embarked on a motorcycle journey seeking medical help, with the wife driving. They initially visited a nearby private hospital, where they were reportedly told no physician was available.

Venkataramanan and his wife then proceeded to another private hospital, where an ECG (Electrocardiogram) confirmed he had suffered a mild heart attack. The family alleges that the hospital neither initiated emergency treatment nor arranged an ambulance, instead directing them to transfer him to the Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences in Jayanagar.

The couple once again departed on their motorcycle but suffered an accident en route. CCTV footage shows Venkataramanan's wife desperately imploring every passing vehicle—at least two cars, a tempo, and a motorcycle—for assistance with folded hands, returning to check on her husband each time she was refused help.

After several agonizing minutes, a cab driver finally stopped and helped transport Venkataramanan to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival.

Officials stated that Venkataramanan had married in January 2020 and was father to a five-year-old son and a daughter just eighteen months old. He was also his mother's only surviving child, as her other five children had previously passed away.

Even amid this tragedy, the family chose an act of compassion. They donated Venkataramanan's eyes, allowing his death to bring sight to others in need.
