Adani Foundation Observes Energy Conservation Day With Students In Mumbai

The Adani Foundation, with support from Adani Electricity, recently celebrated National Energy Conservation Day with approximately 1.5 lakh students across Mumbai schools.

The celebration, held on December 14, involved students from 947 Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) schools throughout the city, as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative Project 'Utthan'.

According to an official statement, "National Energy Conservation Day was a tremendous success! Through Adani Electricity and Adani Foundation's CSR project 'Utthan', which aims to improve learning outcomes in BMC schools across Mumbai, students participated in critical energy awareness activities in collaboration with BMC and with dedicated support from BMC school teachers and Utthan Sahayaks."

The statement further noted, "Activities ranging from the entertaining 'Switch Off Game' and creative science models to the Energy Pledge are actively cultivating energy efficiency awareness among younger generations."

Since its inception in 2021, Project Utthan has operated as a successful public-private partnership between BMC, Adani Foundation, and Adani Electricity. The project focuses primarily on enhancing educational quality and learning outcomes in BMC schools throughout Mumbai.

A key priority of the project is strengthening Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) for primary students. This is accomplished through activity-based learning methodologies, establishment of comprehensive learning resources such as Reading Corners, and individualized support from dedicated Utthan Sahayaks who collaborate with BMC teachers to ensure student retention and academic progress.

The initiative has made remarkable progress in transforming foundational education across 83 BMC schools in several Mumbai areas including Malad, Dahisar, Borivali, Chembur, and Kurla, directly impacting more than 25,000 students.

The program has already demonstrated quantifiable improvements in learning outcomes, student participation, and the development of more engaging and inclusive classroom environments.

Beyond academic enhancement, Project Utthan promotes holistic development by empowering teachers and fostering community involvement.

The project aspires to fundamentally transform Mumbai's public education system by establishing strong foundational learning environments that extend beyond mere academic metrics.

This initiative is strategically designed to improve the city's performance in the upcoming National Achievement Survey (NAS) 2027-28, with particular emphasis on ensuring every child acquires essential literacy and numeracy skills.

Building on its initial success, Project Utthan is now expanding for academic years 2025-26 to 2027-28 to encompass Grades 1 through 4 across all 947 municipal schools, with the goal of reaching more than 1.5 lakh students.
