A man sustained 50% burn injuries after attempting suicide by self-immolation outside the Bombay High Court following a dispute with a lawyer who allegedly took Rs 80,000 but failed to file his case. Police and bystanders quickly intervened, and Azad Maidan Police are investigating the incident.

Man Sets Himself Ablaze Near Bombay High Court Over Dispute With Lawyer

A man attempted suicide by setting himself on fire outside the Bombay High Court premises on Monday evening, according to police reports.

The victim, identified as Prakash Sawant, was quickly aided by police officers and bystanders who extinguished the flames. He was immediately transported to a government hospital in south Mumbai where medical staff determined he had suffered 50 percent burn injuries.

Initial investigations indicate the incident stemmed from a dispute between Sawant, who resides in Kankavali in the coastal Sindhudurg district, and a lawyer regarding a case filing.

According to police statements, Sawant had allegedly paid Rs 80,000 to a lawyer to file a case in the High Court, but the lawyer reportedly failed to do so.

The Azad Maidan Police are currently conducting a thorough investigation into the incident.
